Chapter 14

When they got back to the suite, Stephano pulled Kyra over to the sofa, and she slid onto his lap. With her head in the crook of his neck and her arms draped over his shoulders, Kyra closed her eyes. She was still pantiless, the fabric of her wool slacks touching her bare sex, which turned her on.

In the quiet of the room, leaning against Stephano’s strong form, Kyra felt serene. Thoughts below the surface nagged at her, unwilling to let her forget what might happen when the next day dawned. It was all so uncertain and unsettling.

But being with Stephano was not. Wrapped in his arms, she had not been more sure that she loved him and wanted to spend her life with him. Their evening together was like the calm before the storm, as Kyra knew the peace they shared would be ripped apart.

There was no way to just fly away and live happily ever after. Not yet. Not wanting to think about it right then, Kyra pushed her anxieties aside as best she could. All she wanted was to get lost in Stephano’s masculinity, let him be the center of her world, for just a little longer.

Stephano fingered her long hair, then rubbed her back. Kyra sat up and looked into his coppery eyes. He took her hand and kissed her engagement ring. Using his fingertips, he slowly traced circles in the center of her palm.

Stephano made tiny circles, gradually widening out to the edge of her hand, which aroused her. Kyra’s skin tingled as she responded to his touch. He lifted her hand and licked along the inside of her wrist, making her feel weak. Stephano pushed up the sleeve of her sweater, then slid his tongue along the tender skin of her forearm, down to the bend of her elbow.

Stephano succeeded in pulling her thoughts away from anything other than him. The gentle touch felt immensely good, making Kyra’s skin warm. He dug his hand in her hair and pulled her to him for a kiss.

When Stephano delved into her mouth, Kyra melted. His kiss was commanding, yet loving, making her crave more. She pressed into him, lashing against his hot tongue, sensation flooding her. He tasted so good.

Kyra rubbed her fingers on the back of his neck, losing herself in the long, hot kiss. When she pulled back, Stephano rubbed the pad of his thumb over her bottom lip. “I love you,” he said softly, making her smile.

Kyra slid off his lap and followed him to the kitchen. Stephano opened a single-serving bottle of bourbon, and poured it in a glass over ice. He leaned against the counter and pulled her close, wrapping one arm around her.

Stephano took a gulp of his drink, then offered her some. Kyra shook her head, having reached her limit with the vodka she’d had earlier. He took another taste of the bourbon, then guided her back to the sofa with his arm around her.

Kyra slipped off her boots and dug her toes into the thick carpet.
